Sooners in the NPF Season Recap

NORMAN, Okla. -- As a bonus to OU softball fans, SoonerSports.com will provide a wrap-up of how several Sooners did while playing in the National Pro Fastpitch League this summer. At the close of this season, several Sooners represented their teams well as they battled for the 2008 NPF Championship.

As she did last season, Norelle Dickson (Akron Racers) was selected to be apart of the all-NPF team. The squad faced the U.S. Olympic Softball Team twice this summer, as part of their Bound-4-Beijing Tour and also took on Team Canada and Team China.

Dickson finished the season with 19 runs, 36 hits with three runs batted in. She also continued to be a dangerous force on the bases, ranking first on the team in stolen bases (14) and second in batting average (.298).

Susan Ogden, a teammate of Dickson's, compiled a solid season as she had 21 hits, while batting 18 RBIs and producing 8 runs. Ogden also ranked fourth on the Akron roster with five home runs.

Savannah Long (Philadelphia Force), battling back from an injury, ended the season on a high note, crossing the plate 18 times, collecting 27 hits, driving in 18 runs, while stealing two bases. Long was also second on the Force blasting six home runs.

Philadelphia Force was the only team with a former Sooner on the team to make the 2008 NPF Playoffs. The Force was eliminated in the fifth game of a six game playoff series.

Erin Evans (Rockford Thunder) had one of her most productive season this year filling up the stats sheet nicely. She led her team with 21 runs while accumulating 27 hits, which ranked third on the squad. Evans also drove in seven RBIs, hit three home runs and stole three bases on the year.

The Chicago Bandits defeated the Washington Glory by a final score of 6-4 to win the 2008 NPF Championship Series and Cowles Cup Trophy. This is the first-ever championship for the Comcast Chicago Bandits. They have won the NPF Regular Season crown on three separate occasions but had not won the championship series until this year.
