Jones-Ferrette to Compete in Beijing

NORMAN, Okla. — University of Oklahoma alum Laverne Jones-Ferrette will represent the Virgin Islands in 100- and 200-meter dash at the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games.  A six-time All-American during her time at OU, Jones-Ferrette will compete in her second Olympics after competing under the Virgin Islands' flag at the 2004 Athens Games.

Jones-Ferrette is one of four OU alums competing in Beijing, joining the Jamaican men's trio of Michael Blackwood (400-meter dash), Danny McFarlane (400-meter hurdles) and Aldwyn Sappleton (800-meter run).

Jones-Ferrette has been representing her native country on the IAAF World Athletics Tour and is currently ranked third on the tour in the 100 and seventh in the 200 with top times of 11.24 and 22.47, respectively.  In her most recent action, Jones-Ferrette took first in the 100 with a time of 11.28 at the 26th Meeting de Atletismo in Madrid on July 5th.
