Seven Earn Softball All-Big 12 Honors

OKLAHOMA CITY - The No. 7 Oklahoma softball team placed seven players on the All-Big 12 teams that were announced on Friday evening. Amber Flores, Savannah Long, D.J. Mathis, Samantha Ricketts and Lindsey Vandever highlighted the Coaches All-Big 12 first team while seniors Susan Ogden and Lauren Eckermann collected second team honors.

The Sooners tied with Texas A&M, the Big 12 regular season champions, with the most first team selections. Oklahoma has placed at least five members on the All-Big 12 teams every year since the inception of the league in 1996.

Ricketts picked up her third straight first team honor while Flores recorded her second straight first team accolade. Eckermann, Ogden and Long are receiving their second All-Big 12 honor of their career while Mathis and Vandever are making their first appearances on the All-Big 12 teams.

Long, the senior captain and Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, led the Sooners in Big 12 play this season as she hit .370 in conference action and also recorded 10 home runs and 32 RBI in overall games this season.

Ricketts stepped up her game in Big 12 play this season as she hit .360 with four home runs and 13 RBI in conference action.

Only a sophomore, Flores continues to be one of the top players in the Big 12 as she finished second in the league with a .385 batting average in all game this season, which also led all Sooners. The sophomore also led the team in home runs (13) and RBI (44).

Picking up her first career honor, Mathis was the Big 12's ERA leader as she led all pitchers with a 1.15 ERA in Big 12 play this year while also recording a conference-best 1.06 ERA in overall games this season. The junior lefty has notched a 27-5 record in the circle this season.

Vandever rounded out the first team honorees as she hit .360 in Big 12 play and was second on the team with 14 RBI in conference action. The catcher was also stellar behind the plate where opponents only stole six out of 12 bases on her.
