Three Sooners Named All-Americans

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma softball team had three players named to the 2008 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America teams as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced the three squads Wednesday afternoon. Amber Flores, D.J. Mathis and Savannah Long represented the Sooners on the second team All-America squads. It marked the first All-America honor for all three Sooners.

Flores, a sophomore, was a first team All-Big 12 and All-Midwest Region selection and led the squad this year with a .381 batting average with 15 home runs and 46 RBIs. Flores, an at-large selection, also set an OU single season record with 45 walks this season. Flores was also one of 25 quarterfinalists for USA Softball's National Player of the Year.

Junior pitcher Mathis was solid in the circle for the Sooners this season as she posted a 31-7 overall record and finished with a 1.18 ERA. Mathis collected first team All-Big 12 and All-Midwest Region honors this season and earned the conference ERA title in all games and conference games during the regular season. Mathis joined Flores as one of 25 finalists for USA Softball's National Player of the Year.

NFCA All-America Teams

Senior captain Long closed out her career with a solid senior season where she hit .359 with 13 home runs and 39 RBIs. The shortstop also became the first non-catcher to earn Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year since its inception in 2004. Long was solid on the defensive end where she recorded a .974 fielding percentage and only five errors all season at the shortstop position.

The Oklahoma softball program has received 31 All-America accolades in its history.
