NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma softball team celebrated the end of its regular season as it hosted its first annual Fan Fest and Senior Night at the OU Softball Complex on Friday night. The fans, team and staff kicked the night off with a barbeque inside the ballpark.
Oklahoma began the festivities with its senior ceremony as it honored seniors Lauren Eckermann, Savannah Long, Susan Ogden and Jadyn Smith. Head coach Patty Gasso opened the night thanking the seniors for their efforts as they were recognized individually in front of the crowd. After each senior was honored with their family, they each gave a speech to the crowd about their career in the Sooner uniform.
Following the senior ceremony, the crowd was able to participate in activities with the squad. Fans were able to compete against the team in contests such as running the bases, throwing the longest, hitting against the Sooner pitchers and a home run derby.
The Sooners capped the night with an autograph session for all in attendance. Oklahoma will enjoy the weekend off before playing in the Big 12 Championship next weekend.
The Sooners, the No. 2 seed, will look to defend their 2007 Big 12 Championship title as they open tournament action on Saturday, May 10 with an 11 a.m. contest at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
