Sullivan Finishes Fourth in Hammer

NORMAN, Okla. --  University of Oklahoma junior Buck Sullivan finished fourth in the men's hammer throw Friday afternoon in the opening event of the collegiate portion of the 39th annual John Jacobs Invitational at the John Jacobs Track and Field Complex.

Sullivan's throw of 192 feet and two inches (58.58 meters) took fourth, one week after the junior in his first year of competition at OU set the program record in the event (195-6/59.60) at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.

Jerome Bortoluzzi, competing unattached, set a John Jacobs Track and Field Complex record in the hammer throw to claim first.  Bortoluzzi's toss of 241-9 (73.69) topped Egor Agafonov of Kansas' previous record of 225-10 (68.83).

OU's Mikaela Johansson, competing unattached, finished third in the women's weight throw with a toss of 177-0 (53.95).

Kate Burton of Wyoming took first in the event with a throw of 185-5 (56.52).

In Friday's high school action, Midwest City and Richardson Lake Highlands finished 1-2 in both the girls' and boys' first division.  Shawnee took first in the girls' second division with East Central finishing second. The teams flip-flopped in finish in the boys' second division. 

Saturday's action begins at 10 a.m. with the men's and women's pole vault and the women's javelin.
