SCOUTING OKLAHOMA STATE
The Cowgirls are off to a 2-2 start in Big 12 play after sweeping 2007 regular season champion Baylor last weekend in Stillwater. Currently, OSU owns a 17-17 overall record and will face North Texas on Tuesday night before facing the Sooners on Wednesday night.

The OSU squad has been solid offensively as the Cowgirls own a team average of .297  and have hit 26 home runs this season. Kim Kaye is leading the power of the lineup with 10 home runs and 27 RBI this season. The Cowgirls also boast one of the league's top base stealers in leadoff batter Mariah Gearhart, who has stolen 19 of 21 bases this season and  owns a .352 batting average and .448 on-base percentage.

Defensively, the three-member Cowgirl staff has put together a team ERA of 2.76 as sophomore right hander Anna Whiddon is leading the way with  a 1.64 ERA. However, all three pitchers have seem similar action as each pitcher has made 18 appearances this season with Sarah Odom (2.91 ERA, 5-4) and Amanda Crabtree (3.76 ERA, 7-9) completing the staff. Whiddon is holding opponents to a staff-best .216  ERA and has made three appearances in Big 12 play with a 2-1 record and 2.33 ERA.  Whiddon recorded both wins against Baylor.

SERIES RECORDS
In the all-time series between both schools, Oklahoma State leads with a 63-58 advantage, but the Sooners have owned the rivalry since the beginning of Big 12 play. OU has swept the series from OSU in 10 of the 12 seasons of conference play, and has done no worse than split during those 12 years. Additionally, Oklahoma has claimed 11 straight wins in the rivalry and 25 of the last 26.  The Sooners last loss in Stillwater dates back to April 24, 2003 as OU dropped a 4-0 contest to the Cowgirls.

The final meeting of 2007 took place in Stillwater as the Sooners edged Oklahoma State, 2-1, to capture the Bedlam Bell.    Amber Flores went 2-for-4 in the contest while former Sooner Jamie Fox's solo homer in the bottom of the fifth proved to be the game winner as the Cowgirls rallied in the bottom of the seventh and added one run.  Lauren Eckermann earned the win as she threw the shutout and only allowed six hits while striking out seven.

SOONERS MOVE UP TO NO. 11 AND NO. 12
The Sooners moved up to No. 11 in the USA Today/NFCA Poll this week and up to No. 12 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll.  The Sooners moved up one spot in each poll from last week's ranking.

OU AND ARIZONA ONLY TWO SCHOOLS TO BE RANKED IN NFCA POLL ITS ENTIRE EXISTENCE
The Sooners have been ranked in the top 25 of every NFCA poll since its inception, which spans 179 weeks long.  OU and Arizona are the only programs to be ranked in the NFCA Top-25 every week of its existence.

UP NEXT
Oklahoma will host Missouri for a two-game series at the OU Softball Complex this Saturday and Sunday.  Saturday's game will begin at 12 p.m. and will be televised on Cox Channel 2 in Oklahoma City.  The second game of the series will be played at 12 p.m. on Sunday.  The Sooners will follow that with doubleheader against Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark., on Monday day night with the first game of the twin bill beginning at 4 p.m.

UPDATING THE SOONERS
The Sooners traveled to Lincoln last weekend and earned their first sweep of the Huskers in Lincoln for the first time ever in Big 12 play.  D.J. Mathis shut out the Huskers in game one, 6-0, and the Oklahoma offense exploded in game two as the Sooners won, 11-1.  Below are a few notes from the Nebraska series.

*The Sooners own a 4-0 start in Big 12 play for first time since 2005
*Nebraska was shut out at home for the first time since 2005
*OU's 11-1 win was NU's worst home loss since 2000 when it fell to Arizona, 13-0, in the NCAA Regional
*Nebraska gave up double-digit runs for the first time since last season when it lost 10-9 to OU in Norman
*OU pounded six home runs in the two games which is more home runs than Nebraska has all year (5)

SOLID IN CRUNCH TIME
Junior pitcher D.J. Mathis rarely allows batters to reach base, but when she does she doesn't allow the opponent many opportunities.  With runners on base this season, batters have only hit .122 (21-of-172) against Mathis.  The lefty is even better when runners are in scoring position as opponents are only hitting . 060 (5-of-84).

LAST 5 GAMES SINCE MISSOURI STATE LOSS
Since dropping its only home loss of the season to Missouri State, the Sooners have been on a roll in the last five games, outscoring opponents 51-4 during that stretch.  Below are a few notes on the last five games:

* OU hit 13 home runs to the opponents' one
* Savannah Long hit .688 with 21 total bases
* The Sooners only had 13 strikeouts in 152 at bats
* OU hit .414 compared to the opponents' .182 avg.

 Player to Watch
Jessica Legendre| Jr. | 3B
Third baseman Jessica Legendre has caught fire at the right time for the Sooners.  The junior owns a team-best six-game hitting streak with two-multiple hit games during that stretch.  Legendre has been solid in Big 12 play with a .556 batting average, including a home run and four RBI.  Legendre had a career outing against Nebraska last weekend as she  had a double in the first game of the doubleheader and recorded a key home run in the second contest, which also marked the first homer of her career.

TWO-OUT RBI
Prior to the start of Big 12 play, head coach Patty Gasso challenged her team to put together two-out rallies.  The Sooners have definitely taken the advice as OU has recorded 48 RBI since the start of Big 12 play on March 21.  31 of those 48 RBI have come with two outs (65 percent).

CLUTCH HITTERS
Amber Flores (.430), Savannah Long (.391) and Traci Dickenson (.351) have been OU's top three hitters this season, but they have also been clutch at key moments for the Sooners.

* 73 percent of Long's 26 RBI have come with two outs.
* Flores is hitting a team-best .458 with runners on base.
* Dickenson owns a  .371 avg.  with runners in scoring position.

LEGENDRE STEPS IT UP IN BIG 12 PLAY
Junior Jessica Legendre has picked the right time to get hot as she has been solid in Big 12 play this season.  Below is a comparison of Legendre's non-conference numbers compared to her Big 12 numbers.

   Avg.  HR  RBI  On-Base %  Slugging %
 Non-Conference  .227  0  5  .318  .253
 Conference  .556  1  4  .636  1.000

POWER HITTERS
The Sooners are establishing themselves as one of the power teams of the Big 12 Conference.  Oklahoma currently leads the league through all games in home runs (57), slugging percentage (.560), on-base percentage (.417), RBI (223) and runs scored (240).
