OU Duo Qualifies to Match Play

Sooners Stand Fifth in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team stands fifth after Monday's 36 holes of the 13th annual UTSA Intercollegiate at the 6,765-yard, par 71 Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas, after a two-round team score of 588 (+20). In its second tournament of the spring slate, OU is just three shots back of its third top-three finish of the 2007-08 season, after besting 11 squads on Monday.

Senior Phillip Bryan paced the Sooners on day one with rounds of 70 and 72, standing in a tie for fifth.  Two shots back and in a tie for eighth is 2007 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Jesse Schutte who carded rounds of 70 and 74 (+2).  Freshman Liam Logan (74-72) played the two rounds in 4-over-par and stands in a tie for 18th.  Rounding out the Oklahoma team scoring were Ben Blundell (77-79) and Eric Durbin (85-81) who sit in 62nd and 85th, respectively.   

Competing unattached from team scoring is sophomore Tyler Rody, who fired rounds of 71 and 73, joining Schutte in a tie for eighth with 18 holes to play.


Monday's Results Get Acrobat Reader

Mississippi State leads the 17-team field as the only squad in red figures through 36 holes after a team total of 567 (-1).  MSU's Noah Goldman rebounded from a tournament-opening 73 with a second-round 64 and takes a two-shot advantage into the final round at 5-under-par.
