NORMAN, Okla. — Recent University of Oklahoma track and field alum Marcus Pugh has become the latest Sooner to join the professional track and field circuit, signing with Double Pillar Athletics, a professional track organization based in Pasadena, Calif. Pugh, the 2007 Big 12 Conference champion in the 60-meter dash and 100-meter dash, will continue to train in Norman as he finishes his studies in health and exercise sciences before heading to Pasadena in January where he will be coached by Larry Wade.
An All-American in 2007 as a member of the OU 4x100-meter relay that placed fourth in the 2007 NCAA Championships, Pugh garnered 18 All-Big 12 Conference honors during his career at OU and leaves the program as the No. 3 runner in the 60-meter dash (6.64), No. 5 in the 100-meter dash (10.28) and No. 7 in the 200-meter dash (20.47).
“This is an exciting moment to sign with a pro coach and elevate my level of competition. It's something I've worked for my entire life and to finally achieve this goal is a blessing,” said Pugh, originally of Tulsa. “I'm thankful I've had the coaches I've had at OU who have taken me to the places we've gone and allowed me to further my career to this level.”
Pugh will join a talented cast of athletes at Double Pillar Athletics including 2008 Beijing Olympian Rodney Martin and the American record holder in the 110-meter hurdles, Dominique Arnold.
