NORMAN, Okla. — The Oklahoma softball team had an impressive afternoon on day two of the annual Fall Festival at the OU Softball Complex at Marita Hynes Field defeating St. Gregory's University 9-0 and Murray State College 12-0.
In the first game against St. Gregory's, senior southpaw D.J. Mathis and freshman Allee Allen combined for a two-hit shutout against the Cavaliers.
The Oklahoma offense picked up four runs on three hits in the first inning. After a Chana'e Jones triple, second baseman Amber Flores would be hit by a pitch and then senior Samantha Ricketts drew a walk to load the bases. Catcher Lindsey Vandever would single driving in Jones and Flores as the Sooners took a 2-0 lead. Sophomore outfielder Haley Anderson would follow with another base hit sending two more runs home that put OU on top 4-0.
The Sooner bats sparked another big inning in the bottom of the fourth with five runs on six hits after Samantha Ricketts knocked in two more runs with a double and a Wendy Trott single scored Rickets making it 7-0. Junior Lindsey Vandever then hit a two-run homer into the left field bleachers that sealed a 9-0 victory for OU.
Oklahoma had 13 hits overall. Lindsey Vandever was 2 for 3, a single and home-run, with four RBI's.
The Sooner defense only allowed one run on three hits in the second game against Murray State College behind freshmen pitchers Kirsten Allen and Samantha Bachman.
The OU offense proved to be too much for the Aggies on the day. Oklahoma would score one run on two hits in the bottom of the second inning after Katelyn Rouppet singled giving the Sooners the lead 1-0.
The Oklahoma batters exploded on Murray State in the bottom of the third inning scoring 10 runs, that included a three-run homer from Samantha Ricketts into the right field stands and a two-run home run by Amber Flores that hit the scoreboard in left field.
Sophomore outfielder Haley Anderson would add a solo home run of her own in the bottom of the fourth inning as OU cruised to another fall win.
Oklahoma had a combined 27 hits in Saturday's doubleheader.
