NORMAN, Okla.-- The OU women's rowing team has been hard at work gearing up for their next competition coming up on October 25, the Head of the Colorado. The team will be traveling to Austin, Texas, where the regatta is held on the Colorado River.
About the Head of the Colorado:
This regatta is also known as "Pumpkinhead" and is held annually on the last Saturday of October.
It is a 5,000 meter head race held on the Colorado River in Austin, Texas.
The regatta holds events for singles, doubles, quads, pairs, coxed fours, and eights in the following categories: open, masters, juniors, novice and recreational.
The race takes place on the Seven Bridges Course, which offers many good spectator locations along the shores.
Costumes are encouraged at this regatta, and prizes are given to the crew with the best costumes.
The Head of the Colorado is hosted by the Austin Rowing Club, a non-profit organization that aims to provide rowing opportunities and promote rowing in the community.
The Austin Rowing Club (ARC) also hosts the Heart of Texas Regatta and a variety of rowing and social events, including the Fourth of July Barbeque and Firecracker 500 Regatta.
Other ARC events include the Winter Warrior, an 8,000 meter head race in February, and the annual Dan Merrick Cup in August, a 1,000 meter race for recreational crews.
