Softball Shuts Out Lady Lions, 8-0

NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma softball team closed out their fall schedule at the OU Softball Complex at Marita Hynes Field on Wednesday night with a 8-0 victory over the North Central Texas College Lady Lions.

The Sooners scored first and took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when sophomore Wendy Trott hit a solo run home run over the left field wall.

Oklahoma picked up two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when with two outs sophomore third baseman Dani Dobbs doubled making the score 3-0.

The offense added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning after Wendy Trott led off the inning with a single. Freshman Katie Norris would soon follow with an RBI single putting the Sooners up 4-0. Senior Jessica Legendre then singled and a Jeannie Douglas hit scored Norris as OU went up 5-0. Freshman Karolyne Long would pick up an RBI driving Legendre across home plate and an RBI single from sophomore outfielder Krystle Huey gave Oklahoma a 7-0 lead.

A Katie Norris single in the seventh inning drove home another run for the Sooners sealing the win for OU.

Oklahoma had 12 hits on the evening. Freshman Katie Norris was 2 for 2, two singles, with two runs batted in, Krystle Huey was 3 for 4, two singles and a triple, with one run batted in, and Wendy Trott was 2 for 3, a single and a home run, with one run batted in.

The Sooner defense only gave up five hits to the Lady Lions on the night.

Freshmen pitchers Allee Allen, Samantha Bachman, and Kirsten Allen combined for the Sooner shutout victory.

The Oklahoma softball team will hold an intrasquad scrimmage on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 3:30 p.m. All OU softball practices are open to the public.
