NORMAN, Okla. — The Oklahoma softball team continued its fall schedule Wednesday evening at the OU Softball Complex defeating Northern Oklahoma College 14-1.
Oklahoma took the lead early and never looked back scoring three runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning when senior first baseman Samantha Ricketts singled driving in sophomore Krystle Huey and junior Amber Flores to take a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Wendy Trott would then hit a double driving in Ricketts giving the Sooners a 3-0 lead going into the second inning.
Oklahoma would pick up another four runs on two hits in the bottom of the second inning. After capitalizing on a Lady Maverick error the Sooners would pick up two more runs making the score 5-0. A Samantha Ricketts single would then drive in Amber Flores and Wendy Trott would hit another double bringing Ricketts home to take the lead 7-0 after two innings of play.
The Sooner offense unloaded on Northern Oklahoma in the bottom of the third inning scoring seven more runs which was sparked by sophomore third baseman Dani Dobbs leading off the inning with a single followed by a two-run homer by sophomore outfielder Haley Anderson over the left field wall.
Oklahoma pounded out 17 hits on the night and the Sooner defense gave up only three hits to the Lady Mavericks.
Wendy Trott had a stellar night going 4 for 4, two singles and two doubles, with two runs batted in, while Samantha Ricketts was 2 for 3, two singles and a walk, with three runs batted in. Second baseman Amber Flores also had two hits on the evening with a single and double with two runs batted in.
The Sooners will host the annual Fall Festival, Friday-Sunday, Oct. 3-5 and close out the fall schedule against North Central Texas on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m.
Oklahoma will play Rose State on Friday afternoon at 3:45 p.m. CT and then at 6:00 p.m. CT. against Murray State.
Admission is $4 for general admission and $3 for senior citizens. OU students with student ID and children under three are admitted free.
Limited concessions will be available and the Diamond Club will have apparel for sale at all fall events. All proceeds from the tickets, concessions and merchandise go to the Diamond Club, which supports the softball program.
In addition to all scheduled games, the squad will hold an intrasquad scrimmage on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 3:30 p.m. All OU softball practices are open to the public.
