NORMAN, Okla. -- Lynn Monzingo, an assistant coach with the University of Oklahoma men's golf team under Jim Ragan the past two seasons, has accepted the head coaching position at Carrollton Creekview High School.
"Coach Monzingo and his wife both have tremendous professional opportunities in the Dallas metroplex," said OU head coach Jim Ragan. "We will miss Lynn on our staff, but are certainly happy for him and his family.
"Lynn has done an outstanding job as our assistant here," said Ragan. "I cannot express enough the important role he played in our current and future success. He has been a tireless worker and gone above and beyond the call of duty. He has been a great assistant and will always remain a close friend."
Monzingo said he will miss the university community.
"I have so much enjoyed my time at OU; it is a special place with special people," said Monzingo. "I am very disappointed to have to move on but it is unquestionably an opportunity that is beneficial for my family. The University of Oklahoma has been a great experience for me. I want to thank everyone especially Coach Ragan for providing me the opportunity to be part of such an outstanding program."
Monzingo helped the Sooners to three top-five finishes in fall play during the 2007-08 season after guiding Oklahoma to postseason play last spring as the Sooners clinched a spot in the `07 NCAA Central Regional field Prior to his stint with OU, the Eastern New Mexico graduate served as vice president and director of operations for the Texas Junior Golf Tour and had also been managing partner at Ennis Country Club in Ennis, Texas, for four years.
Playing golf collegiately out of South Plains College and Eastern New Mexico, Monzingo was a four-time all-conference golfer and was twice named to the all-region team. After graduating from ENMU with a bachelor's degree in Science in 1985, Monzingo served as a graduate assistant and assistant golf coach while finishing his master's degree in Education.
He and his wife, Margaret, have a son and a daughter.
