NORMAN, Okla. -- The OU men's golf squad tees off for the first time in the 2007-08 season on Monday at the Scenic City Invitational in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Hosted by UT-Chattannoga, the 17-team field will compete at  the 6,999-yard, par-72 Council Fire Golf Club.

"We are excited to get out on the course and see where we stand to start the year," said head coach Jim Ragan. "We are a young squad, but talented, and I expect us to display a strong showing this week."

The Sooners are led by Jesse Schutte, the 2007 Big 12 Necomer of the Year.  The Florence, Ore., native burst onto the collegiate scene a year ago, finishing fifth in the ASU Thunderbird Invitational last April.

Phillip Bryan, the lone upperclassman on the squad, will provide veteran leadership to a talented group of underclassman vying for OU's first tournament title since the 2006 Big 12 Championship.

Joining Bryan and Schutte in the opening Sooner lineup will be sophomores Ben Blundell, Eric Durbin and Tyler Rody.  Blundell placed third in last year's Oklahoma Intercollegiate in just his second collegiate competition.
