IRVING, Texas -- University of Oklahoma sophomore Rob Sorrell was named Big 12 men's cross country runner of the week and senior Jessica Eldridge shared the women's honor announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.

It was the second time in Sorrell's career he has been the conference's runner of the week. For Eldridge, it was her third career honor.  This was the first time two Sooners earned the honors in the same week.

Sorrell dominated the season-opening Hurricane Festival in Tulsa, Okla., Saturday, Sept. 1, helping the Sooner men claim the overall victory over Oklahoma State and Tulsa.

Sorrell's run of the four-mile Mohawk Park course in 19 minutes, 34 seconds (4:54 mile pace) was 49 seconds quicker that his race time last year on the same course when he became the first OU freshman on record to win in his debut.

The Memphis, Tenn., native repeats as the year's first Big 12 runner of the week after earning the honor for the first week of the 2006 season.

Eldridge, an All-American last season, won the women's two-mile race in 10:46, pacing the women's team to a sweep of the top-four positions and a 14-point victory over Tulsa.

The Broken Arrow native's finishing time was over two minutes faster than her best time in two previous starts on the course.

Eldridge shared women's co-runner of the week with Baylor's Nichole Jones, who claimed the individual title at the Baylor Twilight Invitational Friday, Aug. 31.

The OU men's and women's cross country teams are off the next two weekends in preparation for the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota, Saturday, Sept. 29.
