Softball Invites Fans to Saturday Scrimmage

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma softball team began fall team practice over a week ago and is presenting an opportunity for fans to come out and watch the 2008 version of the Sooners this Saturday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m.

The Sooners will kick off the season with the Sooner Diamond Showdown at the OU Softball Complex. The showdown will feature a fun day that will allow Sooner fans to watch the team for the first time this season in an intrasquad scrimmage. The scrimmage will also provide fans the opportunity to mingle with the team and also seek autographs.

"We appreciate our fans so much and we wanted to take this opportunity to play in front of them before our fall season gets started next Wednesday," head coach Patty Gasso said.

The squad will be split into two groups. The White team will be represented by DJ Mathis, Morgan Hudsonpillar, Lindsey Vandever, Wendy Trott, Katelyn Roupette, Savannah Long, Dani Dobbs, Amber Flores and Krystle Huey.

Their competition will be the Black team which will consist of Lauren Eckermann, Jaydn Smith, Susan Ogden, Samantha Ricketts, Chana'e Jones, Traci Dickenson, Jessica Legendre, Haley Anderson, Iver McDonald and Jeannie Douglas.

OU will kick off its fall slate next Wednesday, Sept. 26 against Seminole State at 5 p.m. at the OU Softball Complex. Oklahoma will play nine home games at the OU Softball Complex this fall.

The Sooners welcome back 13 members, including seven starters, from a 2007 squad that produced one of the best records in school history (55-8) while claiming a Big 12 Championship and advancing to an NCAA Super Regional.
