CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- OU sophomore Eric Durbin fired an opening-round, 7-under-par 64, leading the University of Oklahoma men's golf team to a third-place showing heading into the final round at the Scenic City Invitational in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The 54-hole tournament, hosted by UT-Chattanooga, concludes with 18 holes Tuesday morning at the 6,999-yard, par-71 Council Fire Golf Club.
Oklahoma was led by the duo of senior Phillip Bryan and Durbin who both posted 6-under marks through two rounds and stand in third. Durbin's 64 in Monday morning's play was the lowest score for an OU golfer since John Kidwell shot the same mark in the 2001 Big 12 Championship and was just a stroke shy of three-time All-American Todd Hamilton's 63 in the Big Eight Championship in 1987.
In the team standings, OU finished the day at 5-under and in a three-way tie for third place. Charlotte leads the 17-team field after posting a 25-under mark on Monday. Host UT-Chattanooga is four strokes back at 21-under-par. In the individual standings, Tripp Harris of UT-Chattanooga fired rounds of 64 and 69 to match Charlotte's Stefan Wiedergruen at 9-under.
Sooner sophomore Ben Blundell, a native of Rowlett, Texas, jumped from a tie for 57th to 39th through two rounds after a second-round 71. 2007 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Jesse Schutte is a stroke back at +4 after consecutive rounds of 73.
Rounding out the OU scoring was sophomore Tyler Rody who stands in 61st at +7.
