Dickson Named Academic All-American

NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma third baseman Norrelle Dickson has added another honor to her resume as she was named an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Wednesday morning.

Dickson earned second-team honors and is the first Sooner to earn Academic All-America recognition since 2000 when Lana Moran was named the Academic All-American of the Year. Dickson, a Communications major, is the seventh Academic All-American in school history.

It has been a season of many honors for the Orange, Calif., native. In addition to being named Big 12 Player of the Year, Dickson became the first player in OU history to collect All-Midwest Region first team honors all four years of her career and has also been a three-time performer on the Academic All-Big 12 first team.

One of 10 finalists for USA Softball's National Player of the Year, Dickson set record marks this season as she became the OU career leader in hits, runs, stolen bases, batting average and on-base percentage. Additionally, she became only the 11th player in NCAA history, and the first in the Big 12, to record at least 300 hits, 200 runs and 100 stolen bases in her career.

The lefty slapper is currently leading the Big 12 in batting for the second straight year with a .453 batting average, including an even better .484 average in conference only action. She led all Big 12 players in hits, runs and batting average in both overall games and conference only action. She also set the Big 12 single season record for runs scored with 71.
