NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma sophomore Samantha Ricketts has been invited to the 2007 USA Softball Women's National Team selection camp, USA Softball announced Monday. Ricketts joins Texas catcher Megan Willis as one of only two current Big 12 players selected to the camp.
The camp will be held June 11-15 at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., and will be used to select the 2007 USA Softball Women's National Team that will compete in the KFC World Cup of Softball, July 12-16 in Oklahoma City and the Pan American Games, July 20-30, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
A total of 37 players have been selected to attend the Women's National Team Camp including the 22 member National Training Team selected back in September of 2006.
Ricketts leads the nation in RBI per game (1.33) and is coming off a record-setting weekend as her game-winning three-run homer against Colgate broke the Big 12 and OU single season record for RBI. The first baseman currently owns 81 RBI this season and broke Lisa Carey's previous record of 77 set in 2000.
USA Softball will be looking to defend its World Cup title from 2006 and capture its sixth consecutive Pan American Games gold medal in Rio. The USA Women's National Team will also compete in the Canada Cup, June 28-July 8, in Surrey, B.C., Canada. The USA Women's National Team has not competed in the Canada Cup since 2003.
