Bookout Takes Second in Discus

LINCOLN, Neb. Kevin Bookout put the Sooner men's track team in good shape towards the hunt for their best Big 12 Conference finish after taking second in the discus throw Friday afternoon at Ed Weir Stadium.

Bookout, ranked No. 3 in the event prior to the meet, threw 186 feet, 5 inches (56.82 meters) to take the runner-up spot and earn the first eight points for Oklahoma.  Event favorite Derek Randall of Texas won at 193-4 (58.94).

Matt O'Connor and Mitch Henry stand seventh and eighth, respectively, after five events of the decathlon.  Both tallied personal first-day bests with O'Connor totaling 3,727 and Henry 3,723. Nebraska's Skyler Reising was the leader at 4,006.

O'Connor started the morning in good form, winning the 100-meter dash in 11.05 seconds and posted season bests in the high jump and 400.

Henry recorded season bests in the long jump, shot put and high jump.

Anna Monsen was 11th in the women's heptathlon with 2,846 points after the first four events.  Nebraska's Ashley Selig (3,429) led after day one.

Monsen scored personal bests in three events 100-meter hurdles, high jump and 200-meter dash.

Aja Clark completed the 10,000-meter run in 39:02.96 to finish 13th.
