NORMAN, Okla. Senior softball player Jamie Fox was named OU's representative for the Big 12 Conference's inaugural Spring Sports Good Works Team. Each member institution selected a student-athlete for recognition based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in a Big sponsored sport.
Beginning this athletic year, the Big 12 announced a 12-person Good Works Team for the fall (cross country, football, soccer, volleyball), winter (basketball, gymnastics, swimming & diving, wrestling) and spring (baseball, golf, softball, tennis, track & field,).
Fox, a Louisiana native, has been a devoted member of the Norman community. The FCA huddle leader at Irving Middle School has served in multiple community roles this past year. An active member in Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Fox has also helped out with the Norman Homeless shelter clothing drive, the OU Athletics Department canned food drive, United States Postal food drive and the Adopt-An-Angel toy drive.
The two-time Academic All-Big 12 selection also delivers food for “Meals on Wheels” and works FCA and OU softball camps every summer. Fox has also made strong contributions to Josh Heupel's No. 14 Foundation where she delivers Christmas gifts to underprivileged children at local Norman elementary schools.
Fox was one of three Big 12 softball players named to the list as Meagan Denny represented Texas and Iowa State's Kristen Karanzias rounded out the list of softball players. Below is a list of the entire 12-member Spring Sports Good Works Team.
Fox and the No. 2 Sooners return to Big 12 play this weekend as they head to Columbia, Mo., for a weekend series against Missouri, who owns a perfect 5-0 record in Big 12 play. The Sooners and Tigers will meet at 6 p.m. on Saturday followed by the series finale at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
