Dickson Grabs Preseason Honor

NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma softball senior Norrelle Dickson picked up her second preseason award Tuesday after being named to the second-team ESPN.com Preseason All-America team in a list released by the web site. The two-time NFCA All-American was also named to the USA Softball Player of the Year watch list two weeks ago.

Dickson returns for her senior season after claiming the Big 12 batting title with a .449 batting average last year, which also ranked fifth among all NCAA players. The two-time All-Region selection is on pace to break the career hits record at OU this season and also bested all Big 12 players in runs scored, hits and on-base percentage in 2006.

Dickson was one of two Big 12 Conference players selected to the list as Chelsi Lake of Baylor was selected as a first-team catcher.

Dickson and the No. 16 Sooners will open the season on Feb. 9 in a top-25 showdown against No.20 Louisville in the Diamond Fun and Sun Classic in Miami, Fla.

Oklahoma will host its home opener the following weekend in the OU/Nike Classic (Feb. 16-18) at the OU Softball Complex. The Sooners will take on Minnesota at 2:30 p.m.
