NORMAN, Okla. OU senior third baseman Norrelle Dickson, a two-time All-American, was one of 27 senior softball players taken in the 200 National Pro Fastpitch Senior Draft. Dickson was the sixth overall pick and the Akron Racers' first overall selection. It marks the second straight year a Sooner has been drafted in the first round after former Sooner Kristin Vesely was drafted fourth overall last year.
Dickson was one of six Big 12 players selected in the annual draft and the first player from the conference selected.
The Akron Racers play out of Akron Ohio, and finished third in the NPF standings in 2006. Also drafted by the Racers were Georgia players Kellie Middleton (outfield) and pitcher Kasi Carrroll. Also drafted by Akron were Tennessee outfielder India Chiles and Britteny Robinson, a Kent State pitcher.
Dickson becomes the seventh Sooner drafted to the NPF league since its inaugural draft prior to the 2004 season. She joins Sooner alums Heather Scaglione, Kami Keiter, Christina Enea, Erin Evans, Christy Ring, Leah Gulla and Kristin Vesely who were all drafted by the league.
Due to NCAA regulations, an active college senior-athlete may not sign with her respective franchise until their 2007 college season is over.
