OU Men's Golf Finishes Sixth

EDMOND, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma men's golf team finished sixth as host of the Oklahoma Intercollegiate in Edmond, Okla., on Tuesday after shooting a final round of 307 (+23).
SMU won the team title at the 7,412-yard, par-71 Oak Tree Golf Club after a sudden-death playoff with Texas Tech.
The two squads posted three-round totals of 892 (+40), forcing the teams to move back to the par-4 first hole to decide the champion. The format featured all five players from both squads in the playoff with all five scores counting.
After matching each other with +1 scores at the first, SMU prevailed by playing the par-4 second hole at +4 to the Red Raiders +5.
Overnight co-leader Jason Turner of Arkansas captured the individual title at 2-over-par after rounds of 72, 71 and 72. Second-round co-leader Will Griffin of Texas Tech finished a stroke back in second.
2007 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Jesse Schutte recorded a third-round 73 (+2), tying fellow Sooner Tyler Rody's three-round score of 227 (+14) for a 15th-place finish. Schutte recorded rounds of 80, 74 and 73 while Rody carded scores of 79, 69 and 79.
Rody's second-round 69 marked a career best while the 15th-place finish also marked a career best.

Eric Durbin finished 18th after rounds of 76, 73 and 79. The Houston, Texas, sophomore has finished in the top-20 in all three `07 fall tournaments.
Rounding out the OU team scoring were Phillip Bryan and Ben Blundell who shot 76 and 79. Bryan (Mustang, Okla.) finished 27th while Blundell placed 35th.
Competing as an individual, Ryan Sirman bested all other individual competitors with rounds of 80, 74 and 75. The Tyler, Texas, freshman finished 22nd.
Playing unattached for the tournament along with Sirman were sophomore Spencer Rives and freshmen Liam Logan and Cameron Meyers. They shot final rounds of 78, 76 and 81, respectively. Logan's strong final round boosted the Ft. Worth, Texas native to 30th in the standings in his first collegiate tournament while Myers finished 51st in his collegiate opener. Rives finished 46th in his second career tournament.
The Sooners wrap up their fall tournament slate Oct. 22-23, when they travel to the Santa Clara Invitational in San Jose, Calif. A recap of the two-day, 54-hole event will be available at SoonerSports.com.
