Softball Adds Two More Fall Wins

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma softball team added two more wins to its fall record Friday night with a 19-0 victory over Northern Oklahoma College in the first game of the Fall Festival and a 5-1 victory over Southwestern in the second game of Friday night's doubleheader.

In game one, the Sooner offense poured it on from the beginning as it posted four runs in the first frame and followed it with a six-run second inning. The Sooners didn't let up in the final two innings as they added four in the third and five more in its final at bat with the five-inning run-rule.

Senior Stacia Aleman and freshman Amber Flores were the stars of game one as Aleman got the Sooners off to a strong start with her two RBI double in the first inning and followed that with a three-run homer over the left field fence. Aleman finished with five RBI on a 2-for-2 outing at the plate.

Flores followed Aleman's performance with a double in the second frame and three-run homer in the fourth. It marked the rookie's second home run of the fall season which leads the squad. The third baseman finished with four RBI on a 2-for-2 performance at the plate.

In addition to Aleman and Flores, Norrelle Dickson, Amber Spaulding, Samantha Ricketts and Susan Ogden each recorded an RBI. Spaulding led all Sooners with her three hits in the first game which included a triple.

Starting pitcher Lauren Eckermann was extremely effective in the shut out as she recorded eight strikeouts in five innings.

In the second game, the lower-scoring contest saw the Sooners pound six hits while scoring five runs while Southwestern could only muster one run on four hits.

Flores was a force at the plate again in the second contest of the night as she pounded her third home run in three games. The freshman third baseman's two-run shot in the third inning gave the Sooners a 3-0 advantage.

Ricketts, an All-Midwest Region selection last year, was dominant in the second game as she went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. The sophomore ignited the offense in the second inning with a single to right, OU's first hit of the game.

Designated player Jamie Fox also came through in the second game as she pounded a solo home run to deep center field in the sixth to give OU its final run of the game.

The Sooner pitching continued to succeed in the circle. Starter Jadyn Smith earned the win as she surrendered only three hits and one earned run in five innings while fanning three Southwestern batters.

Eckermann entered in relief in the final two innings as she gave up a hit to the first batter she faced but settled down and recorded six consecutive outs to end the game.

Oklahoma will be back in Fall Festival action at the OU Softball Complex on Saturday. The Sooners will take on Washburn at 3:45 p.m. followed by a 6 p.m. contest against Texas Women's University.
