NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma softball team started the fall season in exciting fashion as it handed Seminole State a 10-1 loss Friday night in an extended game (12 innings) at the OU Softball Complex in front of a close to full stadium.

The Sooner bats recorded 18 hits while the OU pitching staff held Seminole State to nine and only one run.

Freshman Amber Flores highlighted the night with her two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh as the rookie finished 3-for-7 at the plate with three RBI and a double.

Junior Savannah Long picked up where she left off last spring as the All-Midwest Region selection got the offense started in the fifth inning with her single to right field that sparked a two-run rally and gave OU its first lead of the game.  Long went 2-for-4 at the plate which included her RBI triple in the sixth.

It was a night for the rookies as true freshman Iver McDonald also impressed in her Sooner debut.  The speedy outfielder couldn't be stopped on the base path as she swiped three during the game while also rallying the offense with two hits at the plate, including an RBI.

Two-time All-American Norrelle Dickson continued her stellar play at the leadoff position as the senior went 4-for-6 with one RBI, including a perfect 3-for-3 performance in the final six innings.

In the circle, two-time juco All-American Lauren Eckermann only allowed two hits in six innings while fanning seven batters and allowing no walks or earned runs.

Eckermann and junior Jadyn Smith switched up the pitching duties every three innings as Smith struck out six batters in six innings while surrendering seven hits and only one earned run.

Friday night's game marked the first of 12 games the Sooners will play at the OU Softball Complex this fall.  The games are similar to scrimmages as they don't count towards OU's record in the spring, but are a great opportunity for fans to get an early glimpse of the squad.

Softball fans will have a chance to see the softball squad in action next weekend as the Sooners host the Fall Festival (Sept. 29-Oct.1) at the OU Softball Complex.  OU's first game will be against Northwestern at 6:15 p.m. on Friday night.
