Softball Releases Fall Schedule

August 30, 2006 | Softball

NORMAN, Okla.   Oklahoma softball fans will get an early glimpse of the 2007 Sooners when they hit the field in Norman for the fall portion of their schedule.

OU is slated to play 11 games at the OU Softball Complex between Sept. 22 and Oct. 15, including two home tournaments.

“The fall is extremely important for us,” head coach Patty Gasso said.  “It's a great way for the newcomers to become acclimated in game situations and it is very beneficial for them to learn a lot this fall.  Our main focus is to figure out what areas we can work on so we are better prepared during the regular season.”

Fall Schedule

OU's two home tournaments will highlight the home portion of the schedule.  For the third straight year, Oklahoma is hosting the Fall Festival during a football bye weekend (Sept. 29-Oct. 1) giving OU fans a great opportunity to watch the Sooner squad.

Oklahoma will play five games that weekend, facing off against Northern, Southwestern, Washburn, Texas Women's University and Pittsburgh State.

Additionally, Oklahoma will also host a home tournament on Oct 14-15 at the OU Softball Complex to conclude the fall season.  Joining the Sooners in the five-team field are Northwestern, St. Gregory's, Eastern, Northwestern (Okla.) and Murray State.

The Sooners will also play two additional games on Marita Hynes Field.  OU will host Seminole State on Friday, Sept. 22 at 5 p.m. and Carl Albert State College on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 5 p.m.

The Sooners will begin team practice on Monday, Sept. 11 in preparation for fall season action.  This year's squad will feature four newcomers and 15 returnees from a 2006 squad that produced a 40-21-1 overall mark and advanced to the NCAA Regional 9 Championships.
