Vesely's Squad Captures NPF Title

NORMAN, Okla. - Former Oklahoma softball player Kristin Vesely led her New England Riptide squad to the National ProFastpich Championship in its playoff tournament this past weekend. The Riptide handed the Connecticut Brakettes a 2-0 shutout to win the Championship trophy on the Brakettes home field in Stratford, Conn.
The top four finishers from the 2006 regular season advanced to the championship series, but ironically it was the Riptide who had the worst record of all four teams entering the playoff. This season marked the Riptide's inaugural season in the pro softball league.

Vesely, a two-time All-American outfielder for the Sooners, was an integral part of the Riptide's championship season. The right fielder was second on the team with 17 runs scored while recording 10 RBI and a .279 batting average.
Vesely joined four other former Oklahoma softball players playing in the National Pro Fastpitch League, which is in its third season. Jennifer Stewart, April Valdez and Vesely made their debut in the professional ranks while Christina Enea and Heather Scaglione entered their second season with the NPF.
Enea and her Chicago Bandits finished with the best overall record, 30-12. Enea played minimal amounts for the Bandits and finished the season with a .133 batting average and had four hits.
Although the Heat (20-28) had a rollercoaster season, Valdez and Scaglione finished strong. Valdez finished the season with a .277 average with 65 at bats and 10 RBI. Her record in the circle was 2-3 with a 4.17 ERA.
Scaglione finished with a .343 batting average with 108 at bats and 21 RBI, second-best on the squad.
It was a building experience for Stewart and the Philadelphia Force who finished the season with a 14-28 record. Stewart posted a record of 6-12 from the circle and a 2.72 ERA.
