Saturday Action At OU/Nike Classic Canceled

February 18, 2006 | Softball

MCKINNEY, Texas The No. 10 Oklahoma softball team is finished at the OU/Nike Classic after Saturday's games were cancelled due to freezing rain and sleet in the McKinney area.  The Sooners were scheduled to play one game against Nevada.

The tournament, originally scheduled to be played in Norman, was moved to the Ballfields at Craig Ranch because of terrible weather conditions in the Norman area.

The Sooners finished the tournament with a 3-0-1 mark after sweeping North Dakota State on Thursday and beating Indiana, 10-8, in game one of a doubleheader on Friday.  The second game of the twin bill ended in an 11-11 tie between the Hoosiers and the Sooners after seven innings.

While Oklahoma and North Dakota State are finished in the OU/Nike Classic, Indiana and Nevada are planning to play an 11 a.m game Sunday morning if weather permits.  NDSU finished with an 0-4 mark while Indiana is currently 0-1-1 and Nevada is 2-0 heading into the final game on Sunday.

OU, owning a 9-1-1 record, will return to action this Thursday at the Palm Springs Classic in Palm Springs, Calif.  Oklahoma will square off against No. 24 Oregon at 10 p.m. (CST) in opening day action February 23.  In Friday's games, the Sooners will meet No. 22 Fresno State at 3 p.m. and UC Santa Barbara at 10 p.m.  On Saturday, Oklahoma and Cal Poly will square off at 2:30 p.m. followed by a 10:30 p.m. match up against Pacific.

The highlight of the tournament will be a final day match up against No. 2 UCLA on Sunday at 1 p.m., which will be televised by ESPNU.
