OU Ends Fall Slate at CordeValle

November 05, 2006 | Men's Golf

NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma men's golf team will conclude its fall tournament stretch at the CordeValle Collegiate on Nov. 6-7, in San Martin, Calif. The tournament, hosted by UCLA, will feature a field of 17 teams including five ranked in the Top-10 by Golfstat.

The 54-hole tournament will be played at the 7,119 yard Par-72 CordeValle Country Club.  Monday's 36-hole round will feature a shotgun start at 9 a.m. (cst). Tuesday's 18-hole final round will start at 9 a.m., on holes 1 and 10.  Live stats will be available at golfstat.com

The reigning Big 12 champions will face arguably its toughest competition of the season as UCLA (2), Coastal Carolina (4), USC (6), Lamar (8) and Stanford (10) are all ranked in the latest Golfstat Top-10.

“Going into our final tournament of the fall, we are looking for some positives that we can build on heading into the spring,” said OU men's golf head coach Jim Ragan.  “Whether they are on a single-round or three-round level, we are seeking small victories we can use as motivation.”

Senior Nick Sheedy will make his first start of the season in the Sooner team lineup at the CordeValle Collegiate.  The Burlington, Iowa native provides veteran leadership to a Sooner squad that will feature two freshmen for the third consecutive tournament.

Joining Sheedy in the lineup are Pepperdine transfer J.J. Wood, junior Phillip Bryan and freshmen Ben Blundell and Jesse Schutte.  Blundell is coming off of a third-place finish at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate where he played unattached.

“More consistent play will be the key to our success as the season progresses,” added Ragan.  “We have had a few bright spots in practice and earlier tournaments, but we need to see those more frequently to be able to compete at this level.”
