Sooners In the NPF: Week 10

NORMAN, Okla. - As a bonus to Oklahoma softball fans, the staff of SoonerSports.com will provide a weekly glimpse at former players competing in the National Pro Fastpitch league. Today's installment covers week 10 of the NPF season for three Sooner alums. Check back every Wednesday for an updated look at the Sooners in the professional ranks.

The NY/NJ Juggernauts met again for a four-game series Aug. 4-7 in Chicago. After the first four-game series last week, the Bandits had the upper hand because they had taken the series 3-1.

This weekend was much different for both teams. The Juggernauts took full advantage of the crumbling Chicago defense and split the series 2-2.

In the first meeting of the weekend between the two teams, Bandit first baseman Christina Enea started up the action when she approached the plate with two outs and nailed a triple for one of the five Bandit hits of the night. Next, Mackenzie Vandergeest knocked an RBI single to bring Enea in and score the game's only run. In Chicago's other win against the Juggernauts on Aug. 6, Enea continued her hitting streak with a single and scored one of the Bandits' two runs. Enea only played in three of the four-game series, but collected three hits and two runs in seven at bats.

Juggernaut catcher, Heather Scaglione, has seen little playing time in the past couple of weekends. The former Sooner All-American has been busy playing with the USA Elite National Team. Against the Bandits, she only had three at bats with zero runs, hits and RBIs

Even after losing two games last weekend, Chicago is still in first place with a record of 34-6. They are set to host the New England Riptide this weekend with two weeks remaining in the regular season. The fourth place Juggernauts, 27-9, will travel to play the Akron Racers in a four-game series this weekend.

In other NPF action, Erin Evans and the Texas Thunder are currently riding a twenty-game winning streak. After sweeping the series with the California Sunbirds, the Thunder move into third place with a 31-8 record.

Evans was dominant against the Sunbird pitching, collecting four hits, five runs and 2 RBIs in 10 at bats in the four-game series. Currently, Evans owns a .330 batting average which ranks third on the Texas Thunder.

The Thunder looks to continue its winning streak as hits the road for a four-game series against the Arizona Heat.
