Kim Cruises to Publinx Semifinal

NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma's Anthony Kim cruised through his quarterfinal match at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in Lebanon, Ohio, today, defeating Ryan Keeney 5 and 4.

For the second consecutive round, Kim needed only 14 holes to decide the match. The junior-to-be was never contested after taking the lead early with a birdie on the first hole, a 599-yard par 5.

Kim carded five more birdieson 7, 9, 10, 11 and 14and did not miss par as he swept through to the semifinals.

The La Quinta, Calif., native appears to have found his groove after squeaking by his first match play opponent, Ki Moon, 1 up. Kim has entered the clubhouse early in each of his last three matches, mostly with the help of 19 birdies over the 43 holes played (44 percent).

This is the farthest that Kim, the No. 1-seeded player, has advanced in a USGA amateur championship. In six previous tournaments, the two-time All-American never made it out of the second round. Kim earned the No. 1 seed by winning the stroke-play portion of the tournament on Tuesday.

Kim begins semifinal action at 11:30 CT against Martin Ureta (Chile).
