Keiter & Scaglione Earn Tourney Honors

May 14, 2005 | Softball

NORMAN, Okla. -- For the fourth time in her career, senior Kami Keiter was named to All-Big 12 Tournament Team, while fellow senior Heather Scaglione earned the first such honor of her career.  The pair of Oklahoma stars led the Sooners to a 2-2 mark in the conference tourney.

Scaglione led the OU offense and ranked fourth among tourney participants with a .455 batting average.  She collected five hits, one double and one RBI while also posting a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000.

Keiter worked 19.1 innings and allowed just one earned run - via a solo home run - for the Sooners.  Her 0.36 ERA was second only to Tournament MVP Cat Osterman, who did not allow an earned run on the weekend.

With the Big 12 portion of the postseason done, the Sooners will have to wait until Sunday to find out their NCAA postseason fate.  The Division I Softball postseason field of 64 teams will be announced on ESPNews on Sunday night at 6:30.  The Sooners are one of five Big 12 teams that have put in a bid to a host regionals and super regionals.

“I feel that we had a very respectable season,” said Gasso when asked about her team's chances to host a regional.  “It's out of our hands now.  Wherever we are sent, we'll be ready to play.  It'd be easier to stay at home in our environment. It would be very nice for that to happened, but it we didn't earn it, we'll go wherever they send us.”
