Kim, Sheedy Record Top-10 Finishes

AUSTIN, Texas The University of Oklahoma men's golf team finished sixth overall at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate Tuesday, April 5.

The Sooners scored a 6-over 895 as they shot their lowest round of the tournament, 294, over the final 18.

Sophomores Anthony Kim and Nick Sheedy each placed in the top 10, firing final rounds of 74 and 72, respectively. Both recorded their best finishes of the spring.

Kim finished the three-round tournament in a tie for fifth with a 4-over 220. The La Quinta, Calif., native finished eight strokes behind individual medalist Richard Gries of Florida. Gries' even-par final round extended his lead over second place to five strokes.

Sheedy, who matched Gries with his own even-par final round, moved up ten spots over the final 18 holes to a tie for eighth.

Florida captured the team title, counting 872 strokes to finish 8 over. The Gators held a 10-stroke lead over second-place Oklahoma State.

Junior Justin Fraley finished tied for 40th at 14 over. The Rowlett, Texas, native improved from disappointing first and second rounds, shooting a career best 71 on the final day.

Freshman Phillip Bryan tied for 45th, one stroke behind Fraley, counting 231 total strokes.

Junior Shawn LaFontaine completed the Sooners' lineup, finishing in a tie for 67th.

Senior Craig Lurie, playing independently, finished tied for 69th.

The Sooners make a third consecutive trip to Texas for the inaugural Texas A&M Intercollegiate April 16-17 before heading back to the Lone Star State again two weeks later for the Big 12 Championship.
