Sooner Finishes 11th in 5000 at Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa Redshirt freshman Tyler Schmiedeberg made the University of Oklahoma's first day at the Drake Relays a successful one, finishing 11th in the 5000 with a 14:22.70.
His time today cut nearly 45 seconds off his previous best in the event. It ranks as the best time recorded by a Sooner runner in the 5000 this season and ranks as the seventh best time in school history.
Schmiedeberg was the first Sooner to compete in the Drake Relays and the only one scheduled to compete on Thursday. On Friday, the preliminaries in the men's 110-meter hurdles are scheduled. Also on Friday, the women's distance medley relay final is scheduled as is the final in the women's triple jump. The triple jump is set for noon with the hurdle prelims set for 1:17 p.m. and the women's distance medley relay scheduled for 1:28 p.m.
The majority of the Sooners in Des Moines will compete on Saturday in invitational and university finals.
