Bryan Still in Fight

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico The University of Oklahoma men's golf team slid one spot to ninth after the second round at the Puerto Rico Classic.

Freshman Phillip Bryan, who finished round one in second, ended the day tied for seventh at 2 under. The Mustang, Okla., native followed his career-low 66 with a 74 in the second round. He is four strokes out of the lead.

Georgia Tech stormed into the overall lead, carding a second-round best 278, by four strokes over second-place Florida in the field of 18.

Arizona State's Alejandro Canizares improved from a seventh-place start to the individual lead after sharing low-round honors with a 67.

The weather was slightly cooler and windier than in the first round, attributing to tougher conditions on the Westin Rio Mar Beach Resort's River Course. Monday's 74.93 stroke average was over a stroke greater than Sunday's 73.52.

Junior Justin Fraley, in his first tournament with Oklahoma, was the only Sooner to improve on his first-round score. The Rowlett, Texas, native followed Sunday's 75 with a 74 today. He finished tied for 46th, up from a 51st-place start.

Sophomore Anthony Kim (La Quinta, Calif.) concluded the second round tied for 51st and junior Shawn LaFontaine (Cobourg, Ontario) is one stroke back tied for 56th.

Senior Craig Lurie struggled on day two. The Houston, Texas, native fell from 30th to 68th after needing 81 strokes to complete 18 holes. He scored a season-low 72 in the first round.

The final round begins Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 6 a.m.
