NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 13 Oklahoma softball team (11-4) continued to knock the ball around the yard on Tuesday afternoon when it defeated Oklahoma City University (2-2) by a score of 8-3 at the OU Softball Complex. The win extends the Sooners winning streak to nine games and marks the eighth consecutive contest in which OU has scored at least five runs.
“I was happy to see the offense produce early,” said Gasso. “We didn't put together a complete effort today but I was happy with the results. We'll take this win and hopefully carry the momentum into next weekend, which should provide a major test for this team.”
A three-run home run by Jessica Leslie - her third in the last five games - highlighted a five-run first inning for OU. The big knock extended Leslie's hitting streak to six games, during which time she is hitting .529 with 10 RBI.

Fellow senior Christina Enea (2-for-4) extended her own hitting streak to 11 games in the first inning when she drove in two runs on a single up the middle. The 11-game stretch ties a career high for Enea, who set the original streak as a freshman in 2002.
Junior Kristin Vesely (2-for-3) was responsible for OU's one run in the second inning. Vesely led off with a triple down the right field line and scored on a over throw to third base. Vesely is hit .607 (17-for-28) with 11 RBI during her current eight game hitting streak.
In the third inning, freshman Tayl'r Hollis (1-for-2) went yard for the second consecutive game. Hollis a laced an inside riseball over the left field fence to push OU's run total to eight.
Freshman Stacy Braddock got the start and victory to improve to 4-2 on the season. Braddock allowed six hits and three earned runs while striking out a career-high 10 batters. It marked just the second time in Braddock's young career that she has allowed an earned run. Coming into the contest she had only allowed one earned run in 23 innings that spanned six appearances.
Junior Nicole Denes relieved Braddock in the seventh inning and recorded a pair of strikeouts while working a perfect frame.
The Sooners did not commit an error for the sixth consecutive game.
USA Player of the Year Candidate Norrelle Dickson did not play due to a high ankle sprain suffered against North Texas on Sunday. Dickson is considered day-to-day for this weekend's NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga. Dickson was replaced at third base by Hollis and as leadoff hitter by Vesely.
The Sooners open Leadoff Classic play with a 6 p.m. (CST) game against Michigan State. The Sooners will also play Lehigh and No. 21 Florida State during pool play. The championship portion begins Saturday afternoon and runs through Sunday.
