Fall Softball Schedule Released

September 07, 2004 | Softball

NORMAN, Okla.    Fans who can't wait until spring to see the Oklahoma softball team will get a early look in two weeks when the Sooners hit the field in Norman for the fall portion of their schedule.  The Sooners will play seven games at the OU Softball Complex between Sept. 24 and Oct. 13.

“The team has only been in individual workouts for a week and already they are anxious to hit the field,” said Gasso, who pointed out that the staff is just as excited.  “The fall season is about evaluating the new additions and strengthen the returning players individual skills.  As far as numbers, this is the largest team I have had at OU so there will be plenty to do this fall.”

Gasso's squad will open the fall season at home with its annual Fall Festival.  OU will play five games over the weekend of Sept. 24-26.  The home opener is against Neosho County on Friday, Sept. 24 at 4:45 p.m.  Immediately following the early game, OU will take on Southwestern Oklahoma at 7 p.m.

Complete Fall Schedule

On Saturday, Sept. 25 the Sooners will play another doubleheader against Seminole State (4:45 p.m.) and Washburn (7 p.m.).  OU wraps up Fall Festival play on Sunday when it will face St. Gregory at 1:15 p.m.

The Fall Festival is being played on one of the slowest athletics weekends of the semester.  OU football and volleyball both have bye weekends, which provides a perfect opportunity for fans to sneak an early look at the softball squad.

Gasso has also scheduled a pair of Wednesday afternoon contests.  The first is against Seminole State on Sept. 29 at 3 p.m.  Two weeks later Northern comes to town on Oct. 13 for another 3 p.m. contest.

OU finishes its fall schedule with a weekend tournament in Houston at the Spring Klein College Classic from Oct. 15-17.
