Big 12 Softball Tournament Begins Wednesday

NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma will serve as the host school for the 2004 Big 12 Softball Tournament that starts Wednesday at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
 
Tickets for the event, which runs through Saturday, are available at the stadium or by calling the Oklahoma City All Sports Association at 405-236-5000.

Regular season league champion Nebraska enters the tournament as the No. 1 seed after posting a 14-3 conference record. No. 2 seed Texas A&M finished a half game behind the Huskers with a 13-3 mark. Local fan favorites Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are the No. 5 and 6 seeds, respectively.

2004 Big 12 Softball Tournament Central

Tournament action begins Wednesday with a pair of 5 p.m. elimination games. No. 8 seed Texas meets No. 9 seed Iowa State on the main field while No. 7 seed Kansas plays No. 10 seed Texas Tech on the west field. At 7:30 p.m., Nebraska will face Texas or Iowa State and Texas A&M will play Kansas or Texas Tech.

The Sooners hit the field Thursday against No. 4 seed Baylor while the Cowgirls will take on No. 3 seed Missouri. Both games are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. (OU vs. Baylor will be played on the main field).

The tournament championship game will take place on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Texas has won the past two tournament titles and leads with three Big 12 crowns overall. Oklahoma and Nebraska have won two Big 12 Tournament championships while Missouri has one to its credit.

A pretournament banquet will be held Wednesday afternoon with the academic and athletic all-conference teams announced, as well as player of the year, pitcher of the year, defensive player of the year, freshman of the year and coach of the year.
