Coleman Finishes Third in the 800

April 24, 2004 | Track and Field

TULSA, Okla. -- OU freshman Jason Coleman finished third in the 800 at the Golden Hurricane Invitational with a 1:52.04 Saturday. The time lowers his collegiate career best by more than four seconds.

A limited number of Sooners competed in the meet as the OU teams prepare to host the eighth annual Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship next weekend at the completely renovated John Jacobs Field. The meet opens on Thursday and ends on Saturday in Norman.

Philip Cain finished 18th in the 800 with a 1:57.02, a season best for the Sooner junior. Sooner freshman Stephen Taylor finished 11th in the 1500 with a 4:05.59, his first time to run the event this season. It also is the fourth best time on the team this season.

On the women's side, Michelle Thomas ran a 58.54 in the 400 to post the fourth best time for the Sooners this season in that event. It also was a career best mark for the senior by a second. Shannon Wilson finished third in the 5000 with 20:04.63.

Competition in the conference meet opens Thursday with the first day of the decathlon and heptathlon and the finals in the men's and women's 10,000 as well as three field event finals.
