O-Zone to Broadcast Sooner Baseball & Softball

February 04, 2004 | Softball

The University of Oklahoma Athletics Department announced Wednesday that 54 Sooner baseball and softball games this spring will be broadcast live on the O-Zone. The O-Zone is Oklahoma Athletics' subscription-based premium content website within SoonerSports.com.

The live video will be provided during home games by OU's SoonerVision and through agreements with Big 12 partners on the New Media Network during road contests.

"Sooner fans now have the opportunity to watch live video of OU baseball and softball games in Norman and at other Big 12 venues," said OU Athletics Internet Services Director Jason Matheson. "The Athletics Department has made significant strides in bringing our fans greater access to all of our teams through SoonerSports.com and the O-Zone."

The new SoonerSports.com was launched in July of 2003 with the O-Zone going live in August. In addition to football and basketball coverage, the O-Zone has broadcast soccer, volleyball, wrestling and gymnastics events over the past six months. The O-Zone also broadcasts live press conferences from Norman -- including head football coach Bob Stoops' signing day press conference at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

"Our live event coverage is unprecedented," said Matheson. "Most OU football and basketball games have TV or radio broadcasts but now we can bring all the other sports live to Sooner fans around the world."

The O-Zone also features classic game video from the Athletics Department's archives, highlight and interview videos plus exclusive audio clips, stories and photo galleries. Sooner fans also have the opportunity to interact with OU student-athletes and coaches through online chats and player journals.

The official website of the Oklahoma Sooners, SoonerSports.com is a joint venture between the OU Athletics Department and Sooner Sports Properties. Oklahoma joins Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas State, Oregon and Oklahoma State with New Media Networks sites.
