Fall Softball Hurlers Toss No Hitter

September 26, 2003 | Softball

Sophomore Nicole Denes and junior Kami Keiter combined to toss a no hitter in the Sooners opener at the Oklahoma Shootout in Oklahoma City Friday night.. The pitching duo blanked St. Gregory's for the 8-0 win and were one passed ball short of a perfect game. The Sooners are undefeated, 2-0, during the fall season.

Denes tossed the first four innings and struck out six hitters before giving way to Keiter, who closed the game with two perfect innings.

The perfect game bid was lost in the fourth inning when Denes struck out a St. Gregory's batter but the pitch got away from catcher Heather Scaglione. The runner did not advance past first base.

The Sooner offense got on the board in the first inning thanks to early singles by freshman Norrelle Dickson and junior Christina Enea. With two runners on Scaglione drove in Dickson with a single and was followed two batters later by freshman Alison Horne who plated Enea.

Freshman Stacia Aleman put the game out of reach in the second inning with a two-run home run to left field. Aleman went 3-for-4 on the night and added a third RBI in the sixth with a run scoring single.

Denes was perfect at the plate as well, going 2-for-2 with an RBI and a double. Jessica Leslie also had a solid outing, going 1-for-1 with a single and base on balls.

The game was called due to the run rule in the sixth inning.
