Three Mens Golfers Named Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars

Three members of the University of Oklahoma mens golf team have been honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America as Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars. Juniors from the 2002-03 squad receiving recognition were Martin Flores, Doug Manor and Blake Martin. The only school to have more members on the team than Oklahoma was Stanford (four).
Flores, a business major, finished in the top 20 in three of OUs fall tournaments and placed sixth at the 2003 Big 12 Championships. He was named to the Academic All-Big 12 Team for the second consecutive season and concluded his junior year with a 73.9 stroke average.
Manor was named to the Verizon CoSIDA District VI Academic At-Large Team and a third-team Academic All-American. He was also selected to the Academic All-Big 12 Team and was one of two golfers in the conference with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Manor recorded a career-best ninth-place finish at the 2003 Big 12 Championships and was third on the team in stroke average with a 73.3. He is majoring in finance.
Martin, majoring in public relations, was also named to the Academic All-Big 12 Team. He posted a team-best 72.8 season stroke average, which was also sixth best in the Big 12 Conference. Martin competed in his first Big 12 Championships and finished tied for seventh.
"I am extremely proud of these three student-athletes," OU head coach Jim Ragan said. "It speaks volume for them that they were able to have success on the golf course and in the classroom. It can become difficult in golf when we are traveling all of the time and having to miss a few classes here and there."
Nominees for the Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars must have competed in 70 percent of the institutions competitive rounds with at least a 3.2 GPA. He also must be a junior or senior academically and athletically, and have a stroke average under 76.0. The members were selected by the All-America Scholar Committee.
