NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma earned its fourth consecutive trip to the Women's College World Series with a 4-0 sweep through the NCAA Regional in Gainesville, Fla. The Sooners beat Bethune-Cookman, South Florida, Texas-Arlington and Oregon State to win their fourth NCAA Regional title in as many years.
The 2003 team will go down in the books as the first OU softball team to claim an NCAA Regional championship away from Norman. Oklahoma also extended its win streak in regional action to 16 games since 2000.
The Sooners will play as the fourth seed in the WCWS, opening at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, against the No. 5-seed Washington Huskies. OU is 4-3 all-time against UW and defeated the Huskies, 10-2, in the last meeting during the 2001 NCAA Regional in Norman.
