Blanton Finishes Fourth In The 100 At The Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas - Freshman DaBryan Blanton finished fourth in the 100-meter dash today at the 76th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays to highlight a day of solid performances by the Sooner track and field teams. Blanton ran a 10.24, shattering the NCAA regional qualifying mark.

LaVerne Jones ran an 11.42 to finish seventh in the women's 100-meter dash. The time was her fastest of the season and the third NCAA regional qualifying time in as many races for the junior who earned All-America honors in two events during the indoor season. She also ran on OU's 800-meter relay team that posted a 1:38.24, the fifth fastest time in school history. Joining her on that relay were Natasha Franklin, Ashley Freeman and Terrika Warren.

This weekend marked the season opener for most of the Sooner pole vaulters and the four who competed today all posted NCAA regional qualifying marks. Leslie Dunlap finished eighth in the women's section A with a 12-1.5. Robin Hanna was eighth in the men's section A with a 16-10.75 followed by Michael Westlund, ninth with a 16-10.75, and Austin Landreth, 13th with a 16-4.75.

Tiffany Davis finished eighth in the invitational 100-meter hurdles with a 13.77. Joe Butler continued his comeback from injury, clearing a season best 6-6.75 to finish 11th in the men's high jump section B.

The men's sprint medley relay finished sixth with a time of 3:19.53 in action late Friday night. The quartet of Blanton, Dwayne Duhaney, L'eron George and Aldwyn Sappleton recorded the ninth best time in school history. The women's distance medley relay, made up of Alaina Dearman, Nicola Maye, Aisha Stringer and Kim Thomas, finished eighth with an 11:54.64, a school record for the Sooners.

OU returns to Norman to host the 34th annual John Jacobs Invitational next Saturday. Action begin withs field events at 10 a.m. and running events at 11 a.m. This will be the only home meet of the 2003 outdoor season for OU.
