Clayborne Wins Heptathlon Title At Oklahoma Christian

EDMOND, Okla. - OU sophomore Veronica Clayborne made her first competition in the heptathlon a winning one, finishing with 4,326 points in the Oklahoma Christian Multi Event competition Wednesday. Junior Amanda Wedel finished fourth with 3,917 points in her first ever multi event competition.
Clayborne had previously competed in the indoor pentathlon in December 2001. She did not compete in the heptathlon last spring. For Wedel, this marks her first ever competition in a multi event during indoor or outdoor competition.
Clayborne's final point total ranks as the seventh best score in school history. Wedel's score ranks ninth on the all-time Sooner list.
Clayborne recorded career best marks in the high jump with a 5-5.75, in the shot put with a 30-2, in the long jump with a 17-10.5, in the javelin with an 80-10.25 and in the 800 with a 2:38.47.
Wedel recorded career personal bests in the 100 hurdles with a 16.8, in the high jump with a 4-10.5, in the shot put with a 29-4.75, in the 200 with a 26.2, in the long jump with a 15-10.5 and in the javelin with an 82-5. Her 800 time, 2:38.30, is a best for a combined event competition.
The Sooner track and field team will head to Austin, Texas, this weekend for the Texas Invitational.
