Nebraska 6, Texas A&M 4

Nebraska scored five runs over the first two innings thanks in large part to Kim Ogee and went on to eliminate Texas A&M from the Big 12 Tournament, 6-2. Ogee started the Huskers' onslaught with a leadoff homer in the top of the first and followed with a three-run double in the second.

Texas A&M did some damage in the bottom of the fourth after a throwing error allowed a pair of Aggies to cross the plate. The rally was thwarted, however, on a key out at third base and Nebraska escaped without further injury. The Huskers added an insurance run in the top of the seventh and it proved to be helpful as Texas A&M responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame and nearly added another.

A&M's Adrian Gregory tripled to score Cheryl Fowler from first and Gregory later scored on a Kristin Gunter single. Then, with Nebraska leading 6-4 and A&M runners on first and second, Jana James wrapped a single to center. Selena Collins was held at third base but headed home after the throw from the outfield got by Husker catcher Amber Burgess. The NU backstop chased down the ball and flipped it to first baseman Sheena Lawrick who applied the tag on Collins at the plate to end the game.

Husker freshman pitcher Summer Tobias threw a complete game, giving up nine hits, two walks and two earned runs while striking out five. Tobias improved to 14-4 on the year. Lindsay Wilhelmson went the distance for A&M and surrendered two earned runs on 11 hits while fanning six. She dropped to 16-7. Nebraska will face top-seeded Texas tonight at 7:30 p.m.

On the dramatic ending to the game:
"It is a great ending and in fact I loved it because you see Sheena (Lawrick) coming in and she looked like an NHL goalie at the plate. She just got in there and burried it and she (basesrunner Selena Collins) wasn't going to score. It was a very aggressive play on her part and Amber (Burgess) hustled her tail off. To end it that way is actually exciting. You hate to end the game with a team scoring a run but when you can stop them dead in their tracks it is always exciting."

On facing No. 1 seed Texas tonight:
"They are a great ball club and I actually look forward to playing them because I respect their program and respect what they do. Cat (Osterman) is awesome, obviously. It is challenge for us and, honestly, we are in the underdog roll so there is not pressure for us."

On possiblity of two games with Texas:
"Whether we play them once or twice, I look forward to it. I hope we get to play them twice. It is a great setup for postseason when you face a pitcher like Cat."

On the last inning:
"We talked in the huddle before the last inning about hitting good pitches and getting something going. We did that. Everybody had a good at bat and we put pressure on their defense and their pitcher. We had a chance in the end and if we had gotten that player out at home then we would have had our hottest hitter at the plate."

On the game:
"We had one inning where we gave up four unearned runs and that was really the difference in the game. But I thought our team played with a lot of heart and character. We got the score to 6-4 in that last inning and we had a chance to win."
