Texas 7, Texas Tech 1 (Final)

Top-seeded Texas defeated No. 8 seed Texas Tech 7-1 before a crowd of 635 at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.

Texas, defending tournament champion, scored two runs each in the third and fourth innings and added three in the sixth. In the third, second baseman Lindsay Gardner blasted a two-run home run scoring rightfielder Sarah Wieszczak who walked to lead off the inning. UT scored two runs on three hits in the fourth which included an RBI single by Wieszczak.

In the sixth, the Longhorns had five hits in scoring three runs highlighted by another RBI single from Wieszczak, who ended 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Big 12 Pitcher of the Year Cat Osterman threw five innings to pick up her 23rd win of the season. Osterman gave up only two hits and struck out eight batters. Erin Crawford gave up 11 hits and seven runs in taking the loss for Texas Tech.

The Red Raiders scored their lone run in the top of the seventh off of Longhorn reliever Lizi Sowers.

On the win:
"We came out a little bit slow but I thought we settled in. We made some excellent adjustments at the plate and that's what it's all about. We adjusted across the board with all our hitters. The gameplan we came in with -- to utilize one through 17 -- we got to do that right out of the chute and that was nice. We got a lot of production one through 17 and that was nice."

On the loss to Texas:
"Texas has a great team. You have to take your hat off to (Cat) Osterman. She is probably the best in the nation. We got beat 7-1, but we never gave up and that's the key. They have a great team and they're a great challenge."

On Friday's matchup with the Texas A&M-Oklahoma loser:
"They are a lot alike. So I don't have a preference one way or another. Neither has an overpowering pitcher. When the breaks go their way, they are pretty good, just like us."
