NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma softball team moved up to No. 3 in the latest
ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate top 25 poll on Thursday. OU began the season
at No. 8 in the preseason poll but has climbed steadily to its highest ranking
of the season this week.
The Sooners (31-5, 7-2 Big XII) posted a dramatic 2-1 win over intrastate rival
and No. 15 Oklahoma State in the Bedlam game Wednesday night in Norman. The win
improved Oklahoma to 12-2 against top 25 teams this season and snapped OSU's 15-game
win streak. The Sooners also handed the Cowgirls their first conference loss and
extended the team's win streak over OSU to 14-straight.
Oklahoma is looking up at two Pac-10 teams above them in the poll. No. 1 UCLA
is 31-2 and accumulated all 18 first-place votes to solidify its hold on the top
spot. Arizona held down the No. 2 ranking with a 34-3 record.
OU passed Washington which dropped to No. 4 in the latest rankings. The Huskies
(32-4-1) dropped games to No. 6 California and No. 11 Stanford last week.
Oklahoma is the highest ranked Big 12 team with Texas at No. 5, Nebraska at No.
7, Oklahoma State at No. 15 and Texas A&M at No. 19. Missouri and Kansas were
just out of the poll at No. 29 and 30.
